QUESTION: Rhombic Lock

Do you have any detailed pics of how the rhombic lock works? Our 6H won’t clamp on the radial arm. Another question, is the hydraulic clamping system self bleeding? I think it is since our hydraulic cylinder’s piston doesn’t have any piston rings. Should it? Thx for any help you can give me.

    Mike-

Yes, the system is self bleeding.

If you are talking about the column clamping, then you should look at the below link for instructions on the column adjustment.

    http://www.summitmt.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Summit-Radial-Drill-Column-Adjustment.pdf

If you are talking about the head clamping to the arm, then there are adjustment taper blocks on the top of the clamping mechanism that push the mechanism down to take up the gap on the bottom way; this needs to be set so that a .003 feeler gauge can be slid between the head and the bottom way of the arm on both sides. Then the clamp is adjusted using the slide block right on the clamping unit it slides to the left and right to tighten and loosen the clamp. This needs to be adjusted so you can’t move the head with the hand wheel, but not so tight that the rhombic blocks wont break over and lock.

    Mate,

I’m having a similar problem in my radial driller.

Your explanation of adjusting column brakes are thoroughly elaborated and clearly understood because of pics.

If you please provide similar tagged pics for the Spindle head brake adjustment, it would be enormous favour.

    Cheers!
