clutch and brake adjustments

we have recently had to do a rebuild on the feedbox gearing and bearings of our lathe. We decided to replace the clutch and brake packs since it’s been who knows how long and we were getting a lot of chatter out of them. I need to know if there is a known setting for the gap of the clutches and brake. ie: what is the feeler gauge setting on these components if any

  1. The best way to set these is to get the machine warm with your standard 3 jaw chuck mounted.

Once warm put the machine in the second to highest range, make sure your feed shafts are not running. And the machine should rev up in 2-3 seconds in both FWD and RVS. The brake is also set at this rpm and when shifted to neutral should stop the spindle in around 10 seconds.

    Thanks,

    Chase
